(00:00:00) Your YouTube transcript will appear here (00:00:03) [Music] (00:00:06) It's It's from the movie. Right out of (00:00:09) the movie. Ready to go camping and (00:00:10) everything. You think they'd let us (00:00:13) drive this thing? I think they want us (00:00:15) to drive this thing. Let's check it out. (00:00:16) Come (00:00:17) on. Wow. Oh, wow. Like a (00:00:23) kid. So, you notice me? (00:00:27) You have been the voice of Goofy for 38 (00:00:30) years. 38 years. In 1986, my agent said, (00:00:33) "Do you do any of the Disney (00:00:35) characters?" At the time, there were (00:00:37) four or five Mickey's, Donald's, Goofys, (00:00:38) and they wanted to settle on one person. (00:00:40) "Sure, I like Goofy, my favorite (00:00:42) character." And then about a month (00:00:44) later, they said they'd like to try me. (00:00:46) They don't sign you to a big contract or (00:00:48) anything. It's for one show. Yeah. And (00:00:50) now after about 3 or 4 thousand shows, I (00:00:53) think I got the job. Of all the people, (00:00:56) Bill Farmer is the goofiest. Gor. (00:00:59) [Music] (00:01:02) So, Goofy Movie was supposed to be a (00:01:03) goof troop movie. Yes. I was 18 at the (00:01:06) time. I still sounded kind of like a (00:01:08) youthful. You still sound like that. I (00:01:10) guess I do sound young. It's that's it's (00:01:12) my it's my thing. But for Max, cuz he's, (00:01:14) you know, 14 and probably going through (00:01:16) puberty a little bit, gave him a little (00:01:17) sort of like a little voice crack here (00:01:19) and there. and noticing that Max is also (00:01:22) going through the struggles of getting (00:01:23) older and changes that it would be fun (00:01:26) if he laughed like Goofy laughed like (00:01:28) his dad. And the first day recording, (00:01:29) I'm watching you do it and you would (00:01:30) like convulse. Your whole body would get (00:01:32) into Yeah, you got to get into the the (00:01:34) physicality of the (00:01:36) [Music] (00:01:37) action. (00:01:39) Gosh, if you were to teach someone to do (00:01:41) the goofy laugh, how do you do that? I (00:01:43) listen to the way Pinto Kovig did it in (00:01:45) the old days and I broke it down into (00:01:47) three parts. There's the (00:01:50) like a cough and then (00:01:53) a (00:01:56) like, you know, it's kind of a suck in (00:01:59) on that third (00:02:01) one. You got it. You got it. And they in (00:02:05) the opening scenes, they melded ours (00:02:07) together. It wasn't in the script, but I (00:02:09) I was like, if Max is going to laugh, he (00:02:11) might throw in a little yuck and be (00:02:12) embarrassed about that because he sound (00:02:13) like his dad. Y. So when I started doing (00:02:16) that, I think they added that to the (00:02:17) beginning dream sequence. (00:02:22) That's there. That's That's how you (00:02:24) That's where we get the big bucks, (00:02:25) everybody. Yes. (00:02:29) It's a vacation with me and my best (00:02:31) buddy. Oh, Donald Duck. Oh, silly. With (00:02:34) you. Goofy is so earnest and so lovely. (00:02:37) He's genuine, and I think that's what a (00:02:40) lot of people relate to. And he's a good (00:02:42) father. You know, everyone thinks their (00:02:44) dad's goofy at least once. I certainly (00:02:46) did. (00:02:48) You look just like I did at your age. (00:02:51) Please don't say that. Dad, I think most (00:02:53) people when they're young, they identify (00:02:55) with Max and then later on when they (00:02:57) have kids, they identify with Goofy. (00:02:59) Yeah. My son's 15 and I absolutely (00:03:02) identify with Goofy. You know, like (00:03:04) being I'm always being silly and trying (00:03:06) to make him laugh. He's not impressed (00:03:07) with me at all. as he's getting older, (00:03:10) those moments that you get to share with (00:03:12) your kid is super precious. And I can (00:03:14) see why Goofy would want to take Max on (00:03:17) this father-son trip. I Goofy hereby dub (00:03:20) my son Maxillion, official navigator and (00:03:24) head witcher of this here road trip. Can (00:03:28) I tell you my favorite scene in the (00:03:29) movie? Yeah. It sounds weird, but it's (00:03:31) the scene with Goofy and Pete in the hot (00:03:33) tub. Maybe Max isn't all the things that (00:03:35) you think a son should be, but he loves (00:03:38) me. Hey, my son respects me. (00:03:42) Yeah, I didn't like that scene at first (00:03:44) because I thought, "Oh, I'm not doing (00:03:46) goofy enough." But it worked in that (00:03:49) scene. So good because it's really good. (00:03:51) I now I love that scene cuz it's a (00:03:52) conversation between two dads. You and (00:03:54) Jim Cummings just knocked out of the (00:03:56) park. If you keep them under your thumb, (00:03:59) they'll never end up in the gutter. (00:04:03) Under your thumb, goof. Hey, dare (00:04:06) po. Grab a friend. We'll take a ride (00:04:09) together on the open road. (00:04:13) Come on, Maxi. Look in a Goofy Movie. (00:04:16) What are your favorite songs? Oh, man. (00:04:18) My favorite is the Lester's Possum Park (00:04:20) song. That was great. That's one of my (00:04:22) favorite parts of the movie. And Eye to (00:04:24) Eye, I think, for most fans has become (00:04:27) like so iconic now. Oh, people want a (00:04:29) real Powerline concert. Real (00:04:37) power (00:04:41) baby. (00:04:44) [Music] (00:04:49) Yeah. Got (00:04:52) [Music] (00:04:55) myself understand. Set the world in (00:05:00) motion by reaching out for each other's (00:05:04) hands. Maybe we'll discover what we (00:05:07) should have known all (00:05:11) along. It's a long trip together where (00:05:14) we both belong. Here (00:05:18) comes each other's (00:05:21) heart. We're never too far apart. (00:05:25) Maybe love is a reason why for the first (00:05:29) time ever seeing it. I do (00:05:34) [Music] (00:05:35) why do I Oh, I better not. (00:05:39) [Applause] (00:05:43) 30 years, Billy. Yeah. 30 years. I can't (00:05:46) believe it. As an actor, I'm so (00:05:49) fortunate to be a working actor. That's (00:05:50) so rare. That's That's nice. And every (00:05:53) every job, you don't know how it's going (00:05:55) to affect people, where it's going to (00:05:56) go. And to work on something like this (00:05:58) that has meant so much to people in ways (00:06:01) I never expected. I never take that for (00:06:03) granted. I'm very proud to be a goof. I (00:06:06) am so proud that people come up to me (00:06:10) all the time and say, "A Goofy Movie (00:06:13) changed my life. I couldn't talk to my (00:06:16) dad." Yeah. Until that movie came out. (00:06:18) It became our movie. It's wonderful. (00:06:20) Yeah. That's what it meant to me and (00:06:23) means to me today, even more so today (00:06:25) than when it came out in (00:06:27) 1995. It's one of those rare films that (00:06:30) has caught on and just continually grow. (00:06:33) And I love that I get to see you all the (00:06:35) time. You know, sometimes you work with (00:06:36) me again, you never get to see everyone (00:06:38) you work with, but you and I are they're (00:06:39) constantly throwing us back together. (00:06:41) And thank goodness we like each other. (00:06:43) Yeah. It's about relationships. You're (00:06:44) my secondary son. You're my secondary (00:06:47) dad. (00:06:49) Billy, you know what would make the (00:06:50) perfect ending to this trip? What? I got (00:06:53) to hear that goofy yell. The goofy yell. (00:06:55) Yeah. Full force. (00:07:02) Never gets old. (00:07:07) [Music] (00:07:09) Billy, I think we're going over a (00:07:11) waterfall. Oh, (00:07:13) waterfall. Waterfall.
